Monday 11th January

Good morning Year 6!

It's Monday and the start of our second week of online learning in 2021. We learnt a lot about online learning last year. As teachers we try hard to make your learning easy to follow and give you achievable activities with challenges as well! Also, we were reminded how important daily exercise and reading are for children. So take it from us that you need to commit to these activities as well as your 3 subjects every day. Feel proud of yourself when you have completed your day's learning and then enjoy your free time. We are missing you lots in school and can't wait until we are together in class again. All your lessons are set by Mrs Jones today just like a normal Monday. Have a happy Monday everyone!

PE

Today's exercise choices:

1. Go outside for a refreshing walk.

2. Click on the link to Go Noodle and complete 3 of your favourite routines.

3. Click on the link to Joe Wicks to tackle his exercise routine today.

4. Have a go at the Bingo Challenge Mr Steele has put on the main Class Page - this looks fun!

READING

I have set you a reading challenge this week on a website called getepic. Look on our Year 6 blog for a post I put on 8.1.21. It tells you how to get on this website and what your log in is. Click on your initials and start reading the short book. Aim for 10 - 15 minutes of reading each day.

Good luck with all your learning! Let's get going with today's 3 activities...

Below are your tasks for today. Remember if you need to ask any questions go to the class blog and add a comment to 11-1-21 TODAY'S WORK. Keep checking the comments on this BLOG because that is where we will post our replies to you.

ENGLISH

There are 2 tasks to complete today.

TASK 1

LO: To explore the functions of fronted adverbials

Click on the link below to take this Oak Academy lesson with Mrs Hardisty. This is a tricky grammar task and Mrs Hardisty explains it very clearly. Have your pen and exercise book ready as there are 8 sentences to write. The first four sentences need you to provide the actual fronted adverbial in a sentence. The second four sentences need you to provide the comma in the fronted adverbial sentence.

TASK 2

LO: To understand a text

Go to your orange work folder from school and take out the KS2 English Comprehension Year 6 Targeted Question Book. Turn to pages 18 and 19. There is a short biography to read about a famous girl called Malala Yousafzai and then 6 questions to answer in the book. You will notice fronted adverbials in the text to show the passage of TIME through her life.

Blog or email these 2 tasks to me in the normal way.

MATHS

LO: To read and plot co-ordinates

Today's lesson is straight-forward. You are going to recall your learning about co-ordinates in maths.

TASK 1

Click on the You Tube link below which reminds you about reading and plotting co-ordinates.

TASK 2

Complete 2 activities from the worksheets below in your maths exercise book. The first document is the easiest one - EVERYONE must do this one. The second document has pictures of a star, windmill and tractor to choose from. You MUST complete ONE of these. You will need a ruler to draw a co-ordinate grid using the squares in your maths book or you could print off the sheets to work on. I think you will enjoy this task!

Blog or email me this work in the normal way.

TASK 3

Click on the link below to play a fun co-ordinates game. Stick to one quadrant to begin with. We will move onto 4 quadrants tomorrow.

Plotting Points on a Coordinate Plane | Quadrant 1

Welcome to plotting points on a coordinate plane (quadrant 1) with Mr. J! Need help with how to plot points on a coordinate plane? You're in the right place!...

GEOGRAPHY

LO: To explore South America

Today you are going to visit South America which is the continent we will be exploring for the next few weeks! Click on the Oak Academy link below to a lesson taught by Miss Harrison who LOVES South America. You need a pen and your exercise book to answer her questions. She will explain all about the physical geography of South America and ask you to compare this to where you live. Finally she will ask you which is your favourite part of South America and why.

There is a final link to a map website where you can play a South America map game. Click on Countries Easy to start with. We got quite competitive in school playing this game so post your times and let's see who is the fastest!

Enjoy!
