St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Primary School Love One Another

Awards

Wednesday 1st July

Crickey! It's Wednesday already Year 6!

Today was a little warmer in school. Our Leavers' Hoodies are coming in extremely handy as an extra layer of warmth. I received some lovely letters from Stanley to his mom yesterday - well done home and school learners. Maybe the weather will be kinder to us today and we can get outside to practice our leavers' songs and Sports Day skills. If you are at home you can still practice these skills too! Right, what are we doing today? Let's go...

Below are your tasks for today. Remember if you need to ask any questions go to the class blog and add a comment to 1-7-20 TODAY'S WORK. Keep checking the comments on this BLOG because that is where we will post our replies to you.

Maths

L.O To

Following on from yesterday we are going to use the OAK ACADEMY lessons again. Lesson 2 from the percentage topic. Today we are changing fractions, decimals and percentages and ordering them.

WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY LEARNT IN Y6. (Read this first then click on the link to go to the lesson.)

If we want to change a fraction into a decimal, we divide the denominator into the numerator.

Eg 1/8 = 1÷8=0.125

If we want to change a fraction into a percentage change it to a decimal and then multiply by 100.

Eg 1/8 = 0.125 x 100 = 12.5%

If we want to change a percentage to a fraction, we write the number over 100 and simplify.

Eg 25% = 25/100 which cancels down to ¼.

If we want to change a decimal to a percentage, you multiply the decimal by 100.

Eg 0.6 x 100 = 60%

If you want to change a percentage to a decimal you divide the percentage by 100.

Eg 62% = 62÷100 = 0.62

If you want to change a decimal to a fraction your must use place value.

If it’s got one decimal place it becomes tenths. 0.6 = 6/10 = 3/5

If it’s got two decimal places it becomes hundredths 0.06= 6/100 = 3/50

If it’s got three decimal places it becomes thousandths 0.006 = 6/1000 = 3/500

And so on.

REMEMBER - IF YOU ARE COMPARING A FRACTION WITH A PERCENTAGE OR DECIMAL THE BEST THING TO DO IS CHANGE THEM SO THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. EG Which is bigger? 35% or 3/8 If I change them both to decimals, using the instructions above, I will have 0.35 and 0.375 so I can now easily see that 3/8 is the biggest.

Send your work in the normal way through the BLOG or EMAIL.

RE

L.O Prayers for our seeds.

It’s so sad that we can not say goodbye to our seeds altogether in school. Today we are going to create a little memory board. I will print them out and make sure each of your seeds gets them.

If you are at home download the publisher file and type straight into it. Save it using your name and then email it back to me. If you can’t download the publisher file or can’t email it just type the sections into the BLOG and I will put them into the memory board for you.

The 3 sections are:

1.Write about your favourite memory with your seed. It could be the day you first met, but it doesn’t have to be.
2.Write a goodbye message for your seed.
3.Write a goodbye prayer for your seed.

I have done an example for you. Read this first, but don’t copy it. I want this to be your special message to your seed. In school we will be planning this on paper before we type it. If you are at home, I strongly advise you to do the same.
