Maths L.O Multiplying a number by 10, 100 & 1000

Introduction

Before you start today's work I would like you to mark and correct your work from yesterday. The answers are attached below.

Today we are learning how to multiply decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. If you have ever heard a person say 'When you times by 10 you add a zero' This is the day that you find out that that is wrong. 2.3 x 10 IS NOT 2.30. When we are multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 the digits in the number are moving up our place value chart.

If we move 1 column the number gets x 10 bigger or smaller.
•If we move 2 columns the number gets x100 bigger or smaller because 10 x 10 = 100
•If we move 3 columns the number gets x1,000 bigger or smaller because

10 x 10 x 10 = 1,000

•If we move 4 columns the number gets x 10,000 bigger or smaller

10 x 10 x 10 x 10 = 10,000

Make sure you have your pen and Maths book ready and then click on the video to start the lesson. Once you have watched the video and completed the Let's Learn click on the PDF worksheet. There are 8 questions.

Please use the BLOG or Email your work.

Y6 I have no idea why some of the questions on White Rose are repeated but please remember you only have to do the questions once. yeslaugh

Science

Today we are starting a new topic. It's on classification of living things. To start this topic we are going to learn how to use an identification key.

Please click on the link to our video page below and then click on the video in the Y6 area with the title - 14-1-21 Science Using Keys.

The slides are also below, but please watch the video as it will be difficult to understand by just reading the slides.
