ENGLISH

LO: To use grammar and punctuation skills

Complete the next 10 min test from the purple KS2 Grammar and Punctuation Book: Book 1 Set C test 3 page 48. When you have finished, use the answers to mark your work out of 12 and post this score.

LO: To use appropriate language

You task to day is to write a text to explain how the Snoozatron works. To write an effective explanation, you need to use the following language features:

  • Present tense
  • Third person
  • Explaining conjunctions (because, as a result, consequently)
  • Time adverbials (firstly, in the blink of an eye, a few moments later)
  • Precise details
  • Formal language

Write today’s date and LO in your exercise book or word document and underline the title: How does the Snoozatron work?

  • Start your writing with an introduction to explain what your text is about.
  • Write your explanation in a series of steps or paragraphs (use the 6 ways Wallace needs to get to sleep).
  • Finish by telling us about how Gromit must continue until 500 bounces are achieved even though Wallace might already be asleep!
  • Include pictures and sub-headings if this helps your explanation.

Click on the link below to see an example of a top quality explanation text, which includes all the key features. Click on the next link which shows you a VERY basic explanation of the Snoozatron (Year 2 standard) which you need to upgrade to a Year 6 standard of text. Re-watch the clip from yesterday to remind you of the sequence of events.

Attach your work to the blog or email it to me. Good luck and I shall look forward to reading your work.

COMPUTING

LO: To create a powerpoint presentation

Today’s task is to create a powerpoint presentation to summarise your AD900 Baghdad learning. Your powerpoint should have approximately 8 slides including an introduction and ending slide. (Remember the powerpoint you made about your mountain). Look back in the English and History folders on the Year 6 website page. Right back to the first comprehension we did called, ‘A puff of glittering smoke’ until The Siege of Baghdad in 1258 which signalled the end of the Islamic Golden Age. When you put all this work together, you will realise you have learned a lot! Your slides should contain learning on:

* What AD900 Baghdad was like

* Islamic Art

* The House of Wisdom

* Medicine in AD900 Baghdad

* Inventions from that time

* 1001 Arabian Nights stories (Sheherazade)

* The Siege of Baghdad, 1258

Email your powerpoints to me or you could take pictures of the slides and attach them to today’s blog. I can’t wait to see them!
