Monday 8th February

Good morning Year 6!

It's Monday and the start of our sixth and final week of online learning for Spring 1 in 2021! Next week is a half-term holiday. Everyone at home is trying really hard and we are very proud of you. We really enjoyed our Teams Meetings last week so remember to log in at 9.10 am for our class form time.

Congratulations to Theo B who was our star home learner last week! Who will be our star pupil this week? Get out your books and pens and start this week by trying your best today. All 3 lessons MUST be completed EVERYDAY along with daily reading and exercise. Good luck everyone!

READING

AMAZING work Year 6! We reached 200 books read last Friday! I am really glad you are enjoying this website. There are so many books to choose from, you are bound to find some that you really like. Our top reader on Friday was Miley, followed by Giuseppe, Theo B and Charlie. A BIG thank you to these students! Remember to check the Y6 blog post dated 8.1.21 for log in instructions. Aim for 10 - 15 minutes of reading each day. Log on and get reading.

Below are your tasks for today. Remember if you need to ask any questions go to the class blog and add a comment to 8-2-21 TODAY'S WORK. Keep checking the comments on this BLOG because that is where we will post our replies to you.

MATHS

LO: To reflect shapes over a mirror line

Today we are completing the last section of our co-ordinate work. Last week we TRANSLATED shapes on the co-ordinate grid. This means to SLIDE them. This week, we are REFLECTING shapes. This means to flip them over, like you see a reflection of your own face in the mirror. Listen to the White Rose clip as your teacher explains this REALLY well. Press PAUSE and STOP LISTENING when she asks you to do the first activity at 7 minutes and 7 seconds. (We will watch the WHOLE clip tomorrow and do that activity).

Complete the worksheet below on reflections. If you are finding this too difficult choose the easy option. If you want to carry on, try the challenge. Enjoy!

ENGLISH

LO: To choose effective word combinations

For our final week of English learning before the half-term holiday, we are going to enjoy a poetry unit. It is called 'The City of Silence'. Read the information and instructions on the slides below in order to complete today's fun task.

GEOGRAPHY

LO: To understand biomes

Today's lesson brings together your knowledge about the different climates of South America. We know there are snow-capped peaks in the Andes, desert landscapes (Atacama Desert) and fertile land good enough to grow crops such as grapes, avocados and many other fruits. The reasons for this are explained in today's lesson by Miss Reid at the Oak Academy. I really enjoyed it. There are questions to answer so get your exercise book out and write today's date and LO. Make sure you pause and rewind if you don't understand something because you will need this knowledge for your Kahoot quiz when you have finished your lesson. Blog or email your answers. I can see you scores on the Kahoot quiz. Put your FIRST NAME only for the nickname and you can have 3 tries at this quiz. Enjoy this great lesson.
