RE:
L.O: To explore the Liturgy of the Word

When we go to Mass we listen to readings from the Bible. We also listen to the Priest who reads the Gospel. This is called the Liturgy of the Word as we are listening to God's Word in the Bible and listening to what Jesus taught us. God speaks to us through the Bible and this is how we can follow in Jesus' example. The Gospel is read by the priest as these readings are from the New Testament, the stories about Jesus' life.

Watch the video below and then answer the following questions in full sentences into your Workbooks:

  • Why is it important to listen to the readings from the Bible?
  • Why do you think the Gospel is read by the Priest and not just anybody?
  • What preparation do people make to hear the Gospel?  What do you think this means? (Think about what we do before we listen to the Gospel...What do we sing?)
  • In what ways is the Gospel ‘Good News’ for the followers of Jesus?
