Monday 18th January

Good morning Year 6!

It's Monday and the start of our third week of online learning in 2021! We are really proud of how hard you are working at home. It is important to set yourself a routine or timetable like we do at school. It helps your day pass more quickly and more successfully. Congratulations to Annalise who was our home learner last week who has definitely set herself a good routine. Who will be our star pupil this week? Get out your books and pens and start this week by trying your best today. All 3 lessons MUST be completed EVERYDAY along with daily reading and exercise. Good luck everyone!

PE

Today's exercise choices:

1. Go outside for a refreshing walk.

2. Click on the link to Go Noodle and complete 3 of your favourite routines.

3. Click on the link to Joe Wicks to tackle his Monday exercise routine.

4. Have a go at the Bingo Challenge Mr Steele has put on the main Class Page - this looks fun!

READING

Getepic is a fabulous website that you should all be logged on to now. Check the Y6 blog post dated 8.1.21 for instructions. Aim for 10 - 15 minutes of reading each day. Choose one book of the 3, I assigned to Y6 last week. If you have completed that, you have free choice to read whatever you like. I know Y5 as a class have read 100 books. We have read 20... So, there it LOTS of catching up to do. Log on and get reading.

Good luck with all your learning! Let's get going with today's 3 activities...

Below are your tasks for today. Remember if you need to ask any questions go to the class blog and add a comment to 18-1-21 TODAY'S WORK. Keep checking the comments on this BLOG because that is where we will post our replies to you.

ENGLISH

There are 2 tasks to complete today.

TASK 1

LO: To develop knowledge of determiners

Click on the link below to take this Oak Academy lesson with Ms Chu. This lesson starts by reminding you about pronouns - they stand in place of a noun. Personal pronouns are: I, you, she, he or they. Possessive pronouns are: mine, yours, his or hers.

Then she will explain what determiners are. It is quite tricky. But just remember: DETERMINERS COME BEFORE A NOUN. For example, THE pen, HER book, SOME tables or THAT desk.  Have your pen and exercise book ready as there are 2 tasks to complete.

TASK 2

LO: To understand a text

Go to your orange work folder from school and take out the KS2 English Comprehension Year 6 Targeted Question Book. Turn to pages 12 and 13. There is a short extract to CAREFULLY read from a famous book called David Copperfield. Can you remember the author of this book? Then there are 7 questions to answer in the book.

Blog or email these 2 tasks to me in the normal way.

MATHS

LO: To plot co-ordinates

In today's lesson you are going to plot co-ordinates in the first quadrant and then join them to make a polygon (a 2D shape with straight sides).

TASK 1

Click on the You Tube link below which explains how to do this. You ONLY need to watch the first 3 minutes 38 seconds!! The rest of the clip is NOT NEEDED!!

TASK 2

Complete the 2 activities from the worksheets below in your maths exercise book. The first document is the easiest one. The second document is more tricky but I want you ALL to try it. You will need a ruler to draw a co-ordinate grid using the squares in your maths book or you could print off the sheets to work on.

Blog or email me this work in the normal way.

TASK 3

Click on the link below to play a fun co-ordinates game in all 4 quadrants called Rocket Down.

Polygons in the Coordinate Plane

This video is about Polygons in the Coordinate Plane

GEOGRAPHY

LO: To explore human features of South America

Click on the Oak Academy link below to a lesson taught by Miss Harrison who LOVES South America. You need a pen and your exercise book to answer her questions. She will explain all about the human geography of South America which includes the countries and capitals and the economic activities (how they make money) of these places.

There are 4 tasks to do:

1. Quiz

2. Compare our capital city, London, to South America's capital cities

3. Compare the economic activity of the UK to South America's economic activity

4. Final quiz

There is a final link to an online word search of South America for you to complete. Download and print the word document if you wish to complete the word search on paper.
