Light and Shadows

This term in Science we have been learning all about Light and Shadows. We have had a lot of fun making shadows with torches and we have even been able to have a few lessons outside looking at our own shadows. This is what we have learnt:

My shadow is the same shape as me! - Ravon

The sun doesn't move it always stays still and the Earth spins - Toby

To make a shadow a light source has to shine on an object. This stops the light from passing through and a shadow is made - Ben

The sun rises in the East and sets in the West - Caitlin

Your shadows are the longest when the sun is rising and setting and they are the shortest in the middle of the day - Olivia M

Magnets and Springs

Materials and their Properties

This half term, we have been learning about Materials and their Properties. Today, we read the science version of Jack and the Beanstalk. He spilt his water and they needed to mop up the water very quickly before the giant arrived. It was our job to do a very exciting investigation to try and find out which was the most absorbent paper towel. We had lots of fun and we are even blogging to Year 2 to tell them all about it because they have been reading Jack and the Beanstalk in Literacy. Look at our pictures and read the story!

ROCKS AND SOILS

We have been investigating the different types of rocks we have around us. We had a lot of fun finding rocks on school grounds and then looked at man-made and natural rocks. We have also sorted rocks into different groups.
