Awards

Monday 11th January 2021

Good morning Year One,

I hope you have had a lovely weekend with your families.  Miss Armstrong has been very careful this weekend walking Winston as the snow has now turned to ice. if you do venture out this week please be careful as the pavements are quiet slippy, we don't want any injuries.

I would like to give you all a huge thumbs up and well done for last week, you have worked super hard with your home learning, I am a very proud teacher. Keep up your fantastic engagement and hard work this week.

love

Okay, Year One let's start the week off with waking our brains and bodies up!

Knicky Knacky Knocky Knoo - Moose Tube | GoNoodle

English

This week we will be looking at Poetry and taking a closer look at rhyming words.

Rhyming words are two or more words that have the same or similar ending sound. Click on the video below to help us think of rhyming words.

I Love to Rhyme | English Song for Kids | Rhyming for Children | Jack Hartmann

Below is a poetry story called Polar Bear, Polar Bear What do you hear?

I would like you to read the poetry story, whilst you are reading keep a look out for words that rhyme. If you spot a rhyming word write the two rhyming words down in your work book.

I would then like you to complete the activity below, choose ONLY ONE of the animal poems. There are missing words which you need to fill in. Use the key to choose the correct rhyming word.

Remember to use Capital Letters, finger spaces, beautiful handwriting and full stops.

Math's

First lets warm up our Mathematical brains with a little song.

LO: to use tens and ones to make a calculation.

Please watch the learn screen below.

Then, I would like you to answer the questions from the worksheets. Please ONLY write the answers to the worksheets, you DO NOT need to copy out the questions/pictures. If you wish to print them, that is also fine.

Teen Numbers | Numbers In The Teens | Teen Numbers Song | Jack Hartmann

Numbers In The Teens will help children better understand the concept of teen numbers all have a group of ten.

Part One - Tens and ones

Part Two - Tens and ones

Science

LO: to begin to understand the properties of materials.

The Polar Explorers are preparing for their Arctic Adventure and need your help. Can you become super scientist and help them out.

Click on the PowerPoint below to find out about your Science lesson for today. Then click the second link for your investigation.

(I do know some parents maybe working at home, this experiment can be done at another time which is convenient.)

 Enjoy and have fun.

Remember to send Miss Armstrong your work to : Year1_home@st-john.lancs.sch.uk

Have a lovely day smiley
