PLAY & STAY SESSIONS 2023/2024

29/4/2024 Forest School CHICKEN LICKEN We got to meet Hedgehog’s chicken. She was very friendly and she loved eating worms. She lays 1 egg every day. We made chicks. We had to push a piece of wood into the body and then hammer it. Then we had to push and hammer the beak. Next, we had to paint it. We had S’mores again! Yummy!

On Monday 15th April Imran came into school and did a whole school assembly about the Islamic faith. Then Reception had 30-minute session with Imran and he showed us some special objects in the Islamic faith. We learnt words Muslim (a person who follows the Islamic faith), Quran (contains prayers), we learnt that they read the Quran right to left the opposite to us, Prayer mats (they have to face Mecca and take their shoes off), Hijab (lady’s head scarf must be worn when praying and going into the Mosque), Kufi (man’s hat) and Mosque (Place of wordship).

25/3/24 Forest School – The Three Little pigs. The children had to find the different pigs with a friend. Then they made a pig’s head out of wood by sawing a piece of log, hammering it to a bigger piece of log and then drawing a face on it. Finally, they had to make a little house for their pig. We were lucky enough to have S'mores again. Yummy!

Tuesday 12th March 2024 EnviroLENT Throughout Lent we are trying to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rewild and Reclaim in the environment. Mrs Taylor and Mrs Cumming took on the Rewild and Recycle challenges with Reception. In class we have a ‘compost corner’, where the children put their left-over fruit and peelings into a container and everyday it goes in the compost bins outside. Mrs Cumming explained to the children how composting works. Additionally, the children Recycle their milk cartons in the plastic recycling bin. Reception filled up the bird feeders with seed, scattered some wild flower seeds around the seating area in the big playground and filled up the bug hotel with recycled bottles, pine cones, egg boxes, stones and twigs.

World Book Day 7th March 2024

Advent- An Act of Kindness. Reception are following an act of kindness calendar through Advent. Reception decorated buns and gave them to their Gardeners.

Forest Schools 04/12/2023 Today we sang Christmas songs. We decorated the secret garden with baubles to make it look more Christmassy. We made a Christingle for Baby Jesus’ birthday using an orange, ribbon, cloves and a white candle. We had a fire and melted marshmallows for our S’mores. They were delicious. Then we had a surprise our Gardeners came to join us and have some S'mores.

Forest Schools 27.11.2023 Today we learnt about the Christmas story. We went on Nativity hunt to find Mary, Joseph, Angel Gabriel, Baby Jesus and the 3 Kings. We made a clay Christmas candle for Baby Jesus’ birthday. We played in the environment. Children enjoyed playing in the Mud Kitchen and climbing the trees.

Forest Schools 20.11.2023. We had a fantastic time in Forest schools. We explored the area, looking at nature and learning how to treat it, we went on a Nursery Rhyme hunt, we built houses from sticks and leaves for the mouse in Hickory Dickory Dock and we played on the trim trail.
