Good morning Year 6!
I hope you all had a good rest last week and are ready to begin the second half of our Spring Term. We are welcoming the children of key workers into school today and we shall await our Prime Minister's announcement this evening as to when we can all be together in school. Fingers crossed we won't have to wait too long. Home learners we know you are working really hard and we are very proud of you. We really enjoyed our Teams Meetings before the holidays so remember to log in at 9.10 am for our class form time.
Congratulations to Dylan who was our star home learner before the holiday! Who will be our star pupil this week? Get out your books and pens and start this half-term by trying your best today. All 3 lessons MUST be completed EVERYDAY along with daily reading and exercise. Good luck everyone!

READING
We absolutely smashed our reading target in the last few weeks before the holiday with Charlie being our top reader on Friday - well done Charlie! Our grand total was 333 books! FABULOUS! Get logged on to getepic today, choose a book that you like and start reading. I wonder how many books we can read this week? Aim for 10 - 15 minutes of reading each day.
Below are your tasks for today. Remember if you need to ask any questions go to the class blog and add a comment to 22-2-21 TODAY'S WORK. Keep checking the comments on this BLOG because that is where we will post our replies to you.
MATHS
LO: To understand metric units of measure
Today we are beginning a new unit on measure. First of all we need to remind ourselves of the units of measure and what they are worth. Watch and listen carefully to the White Rose measure lesson and then everyone must complete the same worksheet as an introduction to this unit of work.
I have included the answers to the worksheet so you can check your understanding as soon as you have completed the work.
ENGLISH
LO: To spell words with the suffix 'ous'
Today's English starter is straightforward. Neatly and accurately, copy each spelling with its correct definition. Make sure you have 10 sentences in total.
LO: To understand a film clip
The main part of our English lesson is to watch and listen carefully to a fantastic clip by David Attenborough called 'A Perfect Planet'. It very helpfully introduces us to our English and Geography work this half-term on the topic of Extreme Earth. We will be exploring our climate and how it is changing. This is a fascinating and very important unit of work.
When you have finished watching the clip, click on the document below which has questions to answer in your exercise book. Blog or email your spelling sentences and A Perfect Planet answers in the normal way.
GEOGRAPHY
LO: To find out about the Earth's climate and areas of extreme temperatures
Our Geography topic this half-term is fascinating and it is called Extreme Earth. Today you are going to explore where the hottest, coldest, most wet and most dry areas of our Earth are. This links brilliantly to our work on biomes before the holidays so I am hoping you will understand this quite easily.
There are 3 tasks to complete.
1. Click on the document below to read all about these places on Earth.
2. Click the second document which has questions to answer about the Earth's climate. There are some fact cards after the questions where you will find all the answers. Write today's date and LO in your exercise book and you can answer the questions there.
3. Complete the Kahoot quiz on the Earth's climate. Remember to use your FIRST NAME as your nickname and you are allowed 3 tries.
Finally Blog or email your work when you are finished. I will see your Kahoot scores!
