St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Primary School Love One Another

Awards

Monday 6th July

Hello Year 5. I hope you had a lovely weekend. Welcome to the last FULL week of home learning! I simply can’t believe how fast time has gone and how well you have done. That means it’s your last full week as a Year 5! You’ve made me super proud so far so please keep it up and continue to email and blog me your work. I didn’t hear from some of you last week so I will be hoping to hear from you this week.

Here are your lessons for today:

English
LO – To write a free verse poem.

This week in English, be prepared to laugh, cry and everything in between as you delve into three of Pixar’s best short films! Today, the film clip is called ‘Piper’ which you can watch below.

Piper

I want you to think about the thoughts and feelings of Piper and Piper’s parent at the key points shown in the table below. Jot down some ideas in the thoughts and feelings column. If you don't want to draw the table, just write the thoughts and feelings down in your book.

Once you have gathered the thoughts and feelings for Piper and Piper’s parent, create a free verse poem (a no rules poem) for either character. You may want to use some of the thoughts and feelings you jotted down and present these as a poem such as:

Piper

Breakfast time – Hurray

Confused,

Why is mummy not returning?

Desperate, starving.

Let’s go and meet her!

Search for food myself?

Has she lost her mind?

CRASH

Bewildered, petrified, HORRIFIED!

What was that?

I’m looking forward to these so please make sure you send me them through email or on the blog.

Maths
LO – To read and interpret tables.

This week we are going to look at statistics. This involves reading and interpreting information from different tables and graphs. This is something new as we haven’t specifically focussed on this in class. Watch the video below which will take you through the lesson.

Now complete the worksheet below. Mark it when you have finished and send me your score through email or the blog.

Science
Revision of materials and their properties.

We have now finished our Science topic of humans and animals so we are going to spend the next couple of lessons revisiting things. Today, we are going to look at reversible and irreversible changes which we learnt about earlier on in the year. Log in to Education City to find your lesson. Please make sure you complete all parts of the lesson and try your best. I will be monitoring your activity. Remember, if it says Get Adobe Flash Player, click on it and then click ‘allow once’ and it will work.

Have a lovely day. I’m looking forward to seeing your work and hearing from you.
