Hello Year 5. Well done for your hard work yesterday, I couldn’t be prouder of you all. Hope you enjoyed reading and learning about The Titanic. Don’t forget to let me know if you do any extra learning on it. I know some of you are finding it tricky now being at home but keep going and keep smiling. You are doing such a wonderful job. Here are your lessons for today:
English
LO – To use persuasive techniques
Read and watch ‘What was life like on board Titanic’ by clicking the link below.
I want you to cast your minds back to when we were learning about New York in English and how we really worked on using persuasive language. We used the AFOREST technique:
Adjectives/alliteration
Fact
Opinion
Rhetorical question
Exaggeration/emotive language
Slogans
Three or more adjectives/adjectival phrases
I want you to use those again today. Imagine you are employed by the White Star Line (the company who owned Titanic) and have been asked to create a promotional leaflet or poster to advertise Titanic and its facilities. I want you to create a promotional leaflet or poster persuading people of all classes to buy a ticket. Try to include information of what’s available to do on board for all classes.
If you’d like more information and images about the facilities available on board Titanic, use the website below to support writing your leaflet or poster:

Make sure you continue to proof-read your work as you write, checking for spelling and punctuation. You can either do your work on the computer and email it to me or write it in your book. I am looking forward to receiving them!
Maths
LO – To add unlike fractions
Today we are going to add unlike fractions (where the denominators are different numbers) meaning you will need to use your knowledge of equivalent fractions. Click on the link below to take you to the White Rose website and watch the video ‘Lesson 2 – Add fractions.’
Then complete the worksheet below. Mark it when you have finished and send me your score through the blog or by email.
French
LO – To research the money used in French speaking countries.
Bonjour! This week we are setting you a little challenge! Your task is to find out about the currency (money) used in several French speaking countries around the world. The PowerPoint has a table to complete, then you need to draw the coins and notes from three of the countries on slide 2. The challenge question is on slide 3 - we would like to see which class has the most children posting a comment on Mrs Miskell's blog post! Come on Year 5…get blogging! Hope we can win!
