Tuesday 9th February

Good morning Year 5. Hope you’re all well. Thank you for your work yesterday. I saw some great mind maps in response to The Giant’s Necklace and you were excellent at solving the magic squares in Maths! Once again, we had a brilliant TEAMS meeting yesterday and I enjoyed playing bingo with you all.

Here are your lessons for today. As always, please send your work by the blog or email.

English
LO – To read a text and make inferences

Yesterday you were introduced to the front cover and first page of the book, ‘The Giant’s Necklace’ by Michael Morpurgo. Today you are going to complete lesson 2 where you will read a little bit more of the story. You need to pause the video and answer the questions when instructed in your book. I will be able to see if you have done this when you send me your work. Click on the link below to get to your lesson.

Maths
LO – To use all four number operations (+ - x ÷)

Today’s work follows on from the game we played on our TEAMS meeting this morning. On the sheets below, you are given a target number and a list of other numbers. You then need to use the list of numbers and +, - x or ÷ to make the target number.

In sheet number 1 (which you all MUST complete) you can use a number more than once or not at all. Sheet 2, which you may choose to complete, is slightly trickier as you can only use each number once!

Have a go and try your best. If you really cannot get to the target number, get as close to it as you can!

French
LO – To find out about the celebration of La Chandeleur

For French today we would like you to learn about the celebration of La Chandeleur, French pancake day. Click on the link below. This will take you to a website all about the celebration of La Chandeleur. There are two quick videos to watch, and some information to read. The two videos are in French but they do have English subtitles. If it is too quick for you to read, pause the video and restart when you have read it.

Now watch the video below explaining what La Chandeleur is. Then click on the link below which takes you to a web page explaining more about the superstitions linked to La Chandeleur celebration.

Your task

For your task today, create an information poster about La Chandeleur.

You should include:

  • Where the festival started,
  • Why crepes are eaten,
  • Superstitions about La Chandeleur

There is a second PowerPoint below with some additional information which you will find useful to help with the task. We hope you enjoy learning about French pancake day and we are looking forward to seeing your work!
