St John's Nursery Class 2024-25

In our Nursery there are two teachers:

Mrs Barker and Mrs Dowson 

and our Teaching & Learning Assistant

Miss Barnes

 

 

 

 

 

 

We also welcome students from local colleges on work placements.  We currently have Miss Taylor from Burnley College every Monday and Tuesday. 

 

· The Nursery starts each day at 8.45am. If your child requires morning only sessions (15hrs a week) they should be collected between11.30 and 11.45am. 

 

· The morning session ends at 11.45am (our doors open at 11.30) when those children who stay all day (30hrs) have their Packed Lunches (11.45am-12.15pm) which they bring from home before continuing the day with the afternoon session.

 

· The Nursery closes each day at 3.15pm. Our doors open from 3.00pm and all children should be collected by 3.15pm

 

· All Nursery Children receive free milk and a fruit snack each morning and have access to indoor and outdoor provision throughout each session. 

 

· We have access to the school grounds and facilities and also join the rest of the school for important occasions and celebrations and for school masses in church. 

 

· All Nursery sessions are Teacher-led.

 

Every child will be allocated a Key Worker who will make sure they are always settled, happy and learning.

Parents & Carers will be able to contact the Key Worker by email and at morning and afternoon door openings in person.

May 2025: Phonics- we are practising listening for the sounds at the start of words, rhyming pairs of words such as cat / hat and dog / log and we have been clapping the syllables in our names eg Bar-Ker = 2 claps, Mc-Ken-zie= 3 claps. Have a go at home!

May 2025: Commemorating VE Day with a Red, White and Blue day and a celebration lunch with the whole school. We joined in with the prayer and the minutes silence with everyone.

April 2025: We read the story "The Tiny Seed" and investigated seeds in food. We have planted sunflower seeds too!

April 2025: We loved our first sesson with Mr Parkinson the PE coach. We played Lightening McQueen games and Toy Story games. We used the markers as steering wheels and we had to drive and travel at different speeds, stop / start and make different body shapes to move like Buzz, Woody, Rex, Slinky and Mr Potato Head.... It was so much fun!

April 2025: Lent and Easter activities- Palm leaves, making decorations, egg hunts and chocolate nest creating.... delicious! Happy Easter Holidays to everyone!

March 2024: Learning about the Islamic Festival of Eid was so much fun.... We tasted food, made lantern patterns, explored Henna designs and studied what mosques look like.... All part of our RE learning and Love One Another mission

Lent 2025: The children voted in class for who we should raise money for in Lent. We chose between sick children charities, food banks, homeless people or poor families in need. The children voted individually and we have chosen Nightsafe, a charity that helps young homeless people in the local area. We are doing our Sponsored Lent walk for Cafod and Nightsafe. Every class has chosen a charity of their own.

March 2025: Our Class Assembly - Leading the school in prayer and praising God with our final hymn 🙏 We hope you enjoyed watching the assembly- we were so proud of all our children, but especially our January and February starters who coped brilliantly!! 👏

March 2025: Red Nose Day- FUNdraising is a big part of LENT at St John’s. Many thanks for your donations and fabulous 1980s costumes!

March 2025: Looking for signs of Spring- examining daffodils and crocus growth and planting seeds in class. The excitement when we saw growth was immense! We hope you’ve enjoyed tasting your cress plants at home!

March 2025: Physical fun on the Trim Trail with friends- playing, balancing, climbing, turn taking and social skills in the Spring sunshine!

February 2025: We looked at photos of weddings in different churches. We could see the aisle, the altar and candles in all the churches we saw. Later on the children decided to make a church outdoors with benches and an altar! Jude was the priest and performed lots of marriage celebrations!! Congratulations to all the happy couples!!

February 2025: Physical challenges on the mini trampoline and great social skills with fantastic turn taking and personal safety

February 2025: Mark making in lots of ways... we have practised pre-writing shapes- vertical lines, zig zags and waves. We have also drawn shapes- circles, rectangles and squares and we have tried to draw objects to match number totals.

February 2025: We have a new climbing frame in our outdoor classroom! Thank you to our Governor Mr Galvin for building it.

January 2025: We had a very special Liturgy with Father Joseph in the Hall. Some of our Nursery children said some Thank you prayers and some helped set up the altar. We listened to the story of The Presentation of Jesus and we shared food and drinks. Father Joseph loved looking at our Floor Book and we loved sharing it with him

January 2025: Welcome to Olivia, Oliver and Trudie who have joined us recently. We are so proud of our class for helping them to settle in.

January 2025: We visited St John’s Church to learn the names of some of the things we see when we go to a Church Celebration. We saw the aisle, the altar, the benches, the stained glass windows, the font, the lecturn and the tabernacle.

January 2025: After the excitement of Movie Night, the children decided to make a cinema in the outdoor classroom. They put seats in rows, made a screen at the front and even made cups of popcorn!

Christmas Mass was very special. We visited the crib and looked carefully at the people in the stable. Merry Christmas to all our Nursery Families. Thank you for all your cards, gifts and good wishes. Have a magical time together this Christmas.

December 2024: Celebrating Christmas with the whole school! We took our own packed lunches to the Christmas Dinner Celebration.

December 2024: Christmas Card making- we chose stickers of the Nativity story people to show who was there when Jesus was born. We made cards and Nativity decorations for our families.

December 2024: We were so proud of all our Nursery children for taking part in our Nativity Play. The families that came to watch said they loved it!

December 2024: We are learning about The Nativity Story - the first Christmas when Jesus was born...

December 2024: Our children are always amazing us with the care they take when they make things for the people they love.

December 2024: Advent is the time when we are waiting and getting ready to celebrate Jesus's Birthday at Christmas

December 2024: We are so excited to have a brand new Interactive Whiteboard in class! Look how much space we have on the screen for practising mark making!!

December 2024: Busy in class between Christmas Show Rehearsals - activities to do and things to make!

December 2024: Looking after God's wonderful world..... we have been preparing for Spring and tidying up our planters. We planted spring bulbs and some winter pansies and heathers in the planters and wellies. Have a look at our front door pot - we did that too!

November 2024: Our Baby Clinic is open every day! Many babies have been born....and they are all having very thorough medical checks!!

November 2024: Reflecting on Baptism and how we were welcomed into our families.

November 2024: Our Outside classroom is always open- frosty weather means getting wrapped up! The Nursery children have really settled in and friendships are blossomimg, Teamwork and cooperation are always encouraged. Here we are practising fine and gross motor skills..

November 2024: Forest School Fun! We investigated Autumn, Bonfire Night and Remembrance Day with Hedgehog, our Forest School Leader.... and we enjoyed playing and teamwork!

October 2024: Pumpkin Soup Making- we used the pumpkin flesh and some butternut squash, carrots, swede, garlic and vegetable stock. We cooked it all day in the slow cooker and then blended it so it was smooth. We were so proud of everyone for having a taste.

October 2024- Pumpkin Fun! Hammering, Scooping, carving, chopping, stirring, and watching the flickering lights! Lots of,fun!

October 2024: Autumn Festivals- Finger Gym activities with spiders, frogs, tweezers and play dough tools. Creative tasks with scissors and finger paint!

October 2024: Fancy Dress Day..... Wow! Well Done Everyone!

October 2024: Theme week- Angel Delight & Jelly for snack! YUM!

October 2024: Taking a breather in the Outdoor Classroom. We learn cooperation and sharing when we play together and we have the canopy to keep us dry on wet days and the sand shed is always open!

October 2024: Retro desserts! Today we had fun making traditional party desserts. We made jelly and Angel Delight ready to have for snack time on Fancy Dress Day tomorrow!

October 2024: Danceathon Songs- Today the children heard these songs from the 1930s & 1940s. They thought they were so funny- especially the Laughing Policeman!

October 2024: Fashion through the Decades- we looked at patterns and colours and designed our own clothes with patterns and motifs

October 2024: A visit to the Trim Trail- swinging, balancing and climbing. We took the speaker and our Air Guitars and completed some danceathon minutes to some Rock music around the Fire Pitt!

October 2024: Today’s Danceathon songs all came from films- we had Supercalifragilisticexpiallydocious, Let it Go, The Lion King and Under The Sea! Hold your nose when you dance underwater!!

October 2024: Toys through the decades- which would you choose? Tell us why...

October 2024: Food through the decades- Bread making with Mrs Dowson and it smelled and tasted delicious!

October 2024: Theme Week Dancing Through the Decades Danceathon! Today’s sessions included the Birdie song, Macarena and lots more! There were some good movers in class today!

October 2024: We are Special! Can you tell us why you are special? What makes you the same as your friends and different from tthem?

October 2024: We took the new children to see the School Hall. We saw the stage and all the space. We practised walking and sitting on the lines like in assembly. This week we will be going to our first school assembly to celebrate with the Seeds & Gardeners.

October 2024: Rainy Day Fun! Puddles are so much fun when you have your wellies on!

October 2024: We have been finding ways to represent our families and homes. We used shapes, loose parts and natural resources.

September 2024: We gathered at the fire pit to say our Morning prayer. We said Thank you to God for our families, our friends and all the lovely things in our world. (we really tried to catch everyone looking and smiling!!)

September 2024: Trim Trail Skills - climbing, stretching, problem solving, resilience, building confidence & using alternate hands and feet.

September 2024: We had fun at Circle Time telling Mr Gnome all about the foods we love eating and our favourite sleep time teddies......chocolate, pasta, breakfast, sausages, pig, eggs, lasagne, wraps, fajitas and melted toasties were just some of the answers we got!

September 2024: We love the play dough and finger gym activites...all building strength in our fingers and palms

September 2024: Fun with friends at snack time, in the outdoor area and on the big playground with other classes...

September 2024: Sharing stories, puzzles, tablets and playing games together... learning about turn taking and sharing skills

September 2024: Having fun with sand, water and mark making activities...

September 2024: Settling in with Small World Play and Role Play activities...shops, farm, castle, cafe, babies, lego worlds and Mr Potato Head creations
