On Thursday afternoon, Year 5 enjoyed a visit from Burnley College tutors Joseph and Antonio who brought with them two telescopes. The children learned how the telescopes work and why they are important in helping us to learn about space. Unfortunately the weather stopped us from using the telescopes outside, but we did manage to look at some pictures of planets down the corridor!
We are extremely proud of the 12 children who represented St Johns at this event. They showed great resilience and worked amazingly as a team, competing in 8 events overall. Well done!
Well done to Dalton, Lilly-Mai, Daisy and Roman who competed in the Burnley Schools Panathlon Event and came 3rd! They showed great team work, encouragement and determination.
"On Monday night we all went to Spirit of Sport at Blessed Trinity and we played St James. The final score was 4-2 to us. It was quite a tough game but we won at the end. I scored one, Alfie scored one and Milo scored 2."

What is Big Garden Birdwatch?
Big Garden Birdwatch is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey. Every year, hundreds of thousands of nature lovers take part, helping to build a picture of how garden birds are getting on.
Across the UK, over half a million people took part in Big Garden Birdwatch 2023, counting a whopping 9.1 million birds! House Sparrows took the top spot, but counts of these chirpy birds are down by 57% compared to the first Birdwatch in 1979. In fact, we’ve lost 38 million birds from UK skies in the last 60 years. With birds facing so many challenges, it’s more important than ever to get involved in the Birdwatch. Every bird you do – or don’t – count will give us a valuable insight into how garden birds are faring.
How to take part
It’s so easy to be part of Big Garden Birdwatch. Simply choose an hour between 26 and 28 January and count the birds you see in your garden, balcony, or in your local park. Only count birds that land. Then tell us what you saw. Even if you saw nothing, it still counts. Your results can be entered at www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch. Please do this before 18th February.

On Friday 19th January St Johns' Year 6 boys competed in the LSFA Lancashire finals. They proved St Johns is one of the best in Lancashire when they competed against all the top teams in the county. They had to compete and win in two other tournaments prior to the county finals. The boys proudly represented our school and played with great team work and determination to reach the knockout stages! Well done to: Alfie, Jack, Kian, William, Jenson, Joshua, Shay, Tom and Milo.
