What is Big Garden Birdwatch?
Big Garden Birdwatch is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey. Every year, hundreds of thousands of nature lovers take part, helping to build a picture of how garden birds are getting on.
Across the UK, over half a million people took part in Big Garden Birdwatch 2023, counting a whopping 9.1 million birds! House Sparrows took the top spot, but counts of these chirpy birds are down by 57% compared to the first Birdwatch in 1979. In fact, we’ve lost 38 million birds from UK skies in the last 60 years. With birds facing so many challenges, it’s more important than ever to get involved in the Birdwatch. Every bird you do – or don’t – count will give us a valuable insight into how garden birds are faring.
How to take part
It’s so easy to be part of Big Garden Birdwatch. Simply choose an hour between 26 and 28 January and count the birds you see in your garden, balcony, or in your local park. Only count birds that land. Then tell us what you saw. Even if you saw nothing, it still counts. Your results can be entered at www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch. Please do this before 18th February.

On Friday 19th January St Johns' Year 6 boys competed in the LSFA Lancashire finals. They proved St Johns is one of the best in Lancashire when they competed against all the top teams in the county. They had to compete and win in two other tournaments prior to the county finals. The boys proudly represented our school and played with great team work and determination to reach the knockout stages! Well done to: Alfie, Jack, Kian, William, Jenson, Joshua, Shay, Tom and Milo.
Thank you to our EYFS staff and Fr Joseph for a beautiful liturgy giving thanks for our beautiful world. Thank you also to parents and Grandparents for the attendance and support.
Year 2 had a wonderful surprise today to help them with their owl topic in English. The children all got to hold an owl and learnt many new facts about these beautiful creatures. Please follow the link below to look at the photos

We are delighted that our application to the Tesco Stronger Starts was successful and our project is now being put forward to a customer vote in Tesco stores up to the end of March.
Every time you shop in store, you will receive a blue token which can then be put in the box of the project that you wish to support. Please can we ask everyone to support us and vote for our school, as the project with the highest number of votes will receive a grant which will help us to create a kitchen garden for our school and the local community. We will then be able to provide open days, workshops and opportunities to share skills, interact and have fun with local people.
The stores which you can vote for us in are;
Burnley Extra , BB11 2HE
Reedley Burnley Express, BB10 2PA
Brunshaw Burnley Express, BB10 3JB
Padiham, BB12 8DQ
